NZBIO is a member driven organisation helping to build New Zealand's biotechnology sector. NZBIO members have the opportunity to be directly involved in shaping the industry through taking part in NZBIO activities.
In partnership with the Bio Commerce Centre, NZBIO works on behalf of the Manawatu biotech community, keeping them better connected and better informed, promoting and representing the region.
The Manawatu has been home to world class bioscience institutions for 80 years, and the region’s biotechnology sector has expertise in such areas as food science, human and animal health, and environment technologies. With three Tertiary Institutions and two Centres of Research Excellence Palmerston North hosts the largest concentration of world-class biotech scientists in New Zealand. To further benefit from the research and knowledge in the biotech sector, the Bio Commerce Centre was established as a business and innovation center for the region.
In March 2009, New Zealand’s leading food science institutions, Massey University, AgResearch, Fonterra, Plant & Food Research (formerly HortResearch and Crop and Food Research), the Riddet Institute, and the Bio Commerce Centre launched the Food Innovation NZ project in the Manawatu with the goal to market New Zealand’s food research expertise to the world
